the dry bilge machine
Dry Bilges aboard a 43' Tiara Sportfish.
Here are the before and after pictures of the rudder compartment. A small amount of water covers a wide area. At three o'clock in the afternoon, this poorly vented compartment can reach temps near 120 degrees Fahrenheit, causing accelerated evaporation of the residual bilge water. At sunset, the air cools rapidly, passing dew point, and everything in the compartment gets wet and slimy. The steering cylinder needs to be changed repeatedly, as the shaft gets coated, and then cleaned by the seals as the steering is used.
